Charlie Kurth

I am currently Professor of Philosophy at Clemson University. But starting in January 2027, I will be moving to the University of Georgia where I will be a professor in the UGA Philosophy Department and the inaugural Director of the UGA Ethics Hub. I spent two years (2022-2024) as a Core Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies and have also worked at Western Michigan University and Washington University in St. Louis. I received my Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego.

My research and teaching interests include: ethics (all flavors), moral psychology, philosophy of mind, and metaphysics. In my recent work, I've been particularly interested in questions at the intersection of the philosophy of emotion and ethical theory. I have received awards for both my research and teaching.

I grew up in the Washington, DC area and went to college at the University of Virginia. Before returning to school to study philosophy, I spent three years working in finance in New York City. When not thinking about philosophy, I like to be spending time with my family, doing something outside--trail running, hiking, camping, rock climbing, fly fishing, cycling--or concocting something in the kitchen.
